Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Video Benefits Review?

A: Video Benefits Review is a 24/7 web-based video service that uses a spokesperson to communicate employee benefits programs at open enrollment and year-round for new hires. Video Benefits Review is designed to supplement and complement an employer’s existing benefits communication approaches (on-site meetings, paper, benefits portals, carrier resources, Intranets, etc)

Q: What’s so unique about Video Benefits Review?

A: Video Benefits Review uses a video spokesperson, the Video Benefits Guy, to educate employees about benefits programs and concepts while creating a “human touch” in an engaging way.

Use of video as a communication tool for employee benefits has been around for years. However, typical video production is time consuming and expensive. The cost alone makes use of video prohibitive for most employee benefits communication.

Additionally, since annual benefits changes and the introduction of new programs require updated communication each year, a typical video production can become “obsolete” from one year to the next. Once produced, video is expensive to edit and modify in the future. These factors have made use of video as an employee benefits communication tool unrealistic and out of reach for most employers. Until now.

Video Benefits Guy has developed a unique approach to solve the expense, time and obsolescence challenge of typical video production. The result is a high quality, cost effective and rapidly-deployed employee benefits video communication tool available online 24/7. We call it Video Benefits Review.

Q: What are the advantages of using Video Benefits Review?

A: Whether you are an employer or a benefits broker/consultant looking for services to provide your clients, Video Benefits Review provides clear, consistent communication that supplements existing benefits communication and can help reduce the need to conduct costly and time consuming on-site benefits meetings. Video Benefits Review can be used at open enrollment time and for new hire education.

Videos are produced quickly and cost effectively by combining our library of pre-produced benefits modules. Re-using the pre-produced library modules from one production to the next eliminates the need to re-shoot video as a unique project for each client. This greatly decreases production cost and deployment time.

Video Benefits Review allows you to use spokesperson video as a standard component of a benefits communication strategy at a fraction of the cost of typical “one-off” video productions.* Our approach also guarantees a consistent production quality and experience – you know what you are getting before you buy it!

Q: What types of benefits plans are available in the library to create a Video Benefits Review?

A: Today, the Video Benefits Review library of benefit plan modules includes HSA, HRA, PPO, POS, HMO, Dental PPO, Dental HMO, LTD, STD, LIfe AD&D, Supplemental Life, Healthcare FSA, Dependent Care FSA.  Additional benefit plan modules will be added as needed. Feel free to send us your suggestions of content to add to the library.

Q: Do you offer “custom” videos?

A: Yes, as an option for an additional fee, we can create custom video segments with any message. We work with you to develop scripting and then add the custom segments to the production. Custom Introductions could include remarks on new benefit plans being introduced or explanations on why a vendor change is happening or why rates are increasing. Custom Closings could include reference to enrollment deadlines and specific instructions to complete enrollment.

Q: So is our video customized or generic?

A: It’s both. Since most benefit programs essentially work the same way (a PPO is a PPO is a PPO), we’ve standardized the benefit plan video modules as part of a re-usable library.  This way, we virtually eliminate the primary hurdles of traditional custom video – production time and expense.  With our pre-produced plan videos, you forego the time and expense of a custom project, while getting a consistent user experience for every video, every time. Each production is “unique” in that the mix of benefit plans can vary from one employer to the next.  Plus, you  can decide how many library modules you want in your production – as few as one.

Q: Is Video Benefits Review available “offline” or on DVD?

A: At this time Video Benefits Review is available as an online service only.

Q: Who hosts the video(s)? Do we own it?

A: Your order includes unlimited use of your video(s) for twelve months from order date.  Videos are the intellectual property of Video Benefits Guy (David Cleary Group, LLC) and hosted on our servers. We provide you with a specific web address to access and share your video.

Q: What is required for a user to view Video Benefits Review online?

A: Users will need to be connected to the Internet with a broadband connection and have the Adobe Flash Player version 10 and higher to view videos.  The Flash Player comes pre-installed on most browsers (Internet Explorer/Mozilla Firefox) and is also available as a free download here.  The Flash Player is the most widely used player to view online videos.  Additionally, JavaScript needs to enabled on the computer and you need to have basic hardware such as speakers to hear the audio.

Q: What about video playback quality?

A: Online video delivery has come a long way over the last few years and most users with a broadband connection will have no issues with playback.  However, playback quality can vary depending on any number of items including corporate network bandwidth limitations; individual user’s hardware or software configuration and general Internet traffic. Sometimes just “refreshing” the page can improve the playback if there is a delay. Further our videos are hosted on a world-class Content Delivery Network to ensure high quality, reliability and optimal performance.

Q: How will we know if the video will play for our users?

A: No need to guess! Before you buy, we recommend sending the sample video as a test. Ask for feedback on playback quality (was the audio clear, did the video hang or stutter). We use specialized compression software to make the files as small as possible and we use specialized servers to ensure the best experience possible, but testing the video first will give you peace of mind before buying. (that said, remember, individual user experience can vary and we do not guarantee playback quality, see below)

Q: Our corporate network blocks all video content, what do we do?

A: Video Benefits Review is delivered only as an online video.  If users are prohibited from viewing video on a corporate network, they can access the videos when outside the network or from another location such as home.

Q: How much does Video Benefits Review cost?

A: You can buy video library modules individually, or several video modules at once for a “Complete” production. Productions are priced based on number of library modules selected and whether Custom video is selected.  For complete pricing, please request a proposal here. 5% sales tax is added to each order.
